Nail polish removers stink from chemicals that, let's face it, are neither earth- or body-friendly. They're filled with harsh, drying ingredients like acetone, toulene, and DBP. Lucky for us though, A Beautiful Life (a Philly-based skin and make-up boutique), has a naturally-based Soy Polish Remover ($20).
The remover is formulated with citrus extracts and essential oils, and although the remover smells powerful in the bottle and mellows out into a nice grapefruit scent when it hits your fingers.
The remover has been tested against both, the brand's non-toxic soy-based Nail Lacquer in Rockstar ($12) (a subtle shimmery purple), and the not-so-natural offering from Milani called Purple Outline ($4).
The results are that, even though you have to let it set a little bit longer than a traditional formulation, you're left with a squeaky clean nail, once the pigments loosen. Also, instead of wiping the polish away, you have to wiggle it away with a little more pressure. However, you don't need any more product, than you normally would need. Plus, the polish lifts right off onto the cotton pad, and doesn't redistribute itself in a thin, watered-down layer around your nails and surrounding skin. So even though it's a little pricier, it's worth every penny.
