Fashion: Moni Moni Bags

The creations of Moni Moni by Cinzia Moniaci are wonderful for experimenting with color and texture when it comes to handbags. They're made in Italy, so that unique European flair is there, but the designer now resides in L.A., so that casual Cali vibe seeps in. I'm not the only one in love with these bags either. Check out this list of celebs who like them too:

Gossip: Ellen and Portia in Mexico

After finishing her first season of American Idol Wednesday, Ellen DeGeneres and wife, Portia de Rossi, were seen lounging by a pool in Mexico, Friday. Ellen lounged with a book, while Portia put on a bikini to soak in the sun in between work outs. Which, between AI and her own talk show, I'd say Ellen deserves a vacation. Now, she's adding a new project to the list of her accomplishments: her own record label! The company is called eleveneleven and the first task on the agenda is to sign YouTube sensation, Greyson Chance.

Pets: 4 Tips for a Safe and Fun Sidewalk Cafe Stop

  • Before you leave: Many pet-friendly establishments have to-go dishes for your pet to have some water, but it's best to carry your own bowls for puppy. Plus, some treats to prevent giving him (or her) any inappropriate human food. Also, bring a non-Flexi leash (and a bag if it's a small dog), so you can quickly secure him.
  • Before you enter: Check in with the hostess. Just because it's outside doesn't mean it's okay. Plus, if the patios crowded it may be better to go somewhere else.
  • Before you sit: Check the ground around the table to make sure there's no food or liquid droppings any where, and that there are no shopping bags or purses close enough for your furry friend to get to. Then, make sure the leash is short enough that your pup can't bother any customers, or get stepped on by pedestrians.
  • Before you go home: Clean up after yourself! If you've been given a bowl of water for your dog make sure you pick it up. Also, make sure your pet didn't potty when you weren't looking (if so, clean it up), and make sure you thank your server before you exit.

Geek Tip: 5 Things You Should Know About Facebook's New Privacy Settings

  1. You can further customize it. If you don't want to use some of their new and "recommended" security settings, you can customize them, and keep what you want, and get rid of what you don't want. Just click on the "customize" text link at the bottom of the page.
  2. Friends of friends. This is basically friends that you may not have in common with other friends, and when it clicked on by those "friends" they can see anything that's marked "viewable by friends of friends."
  3. Delete unwanted apps. Apps pull info from your profile to work, so if you don't want your info floating around in app you no longer want (or use) it's best to just delete it. Especially if it's a spammy app.
  4. Get a grip on instant personalization. Facebook had recently made a change that allowed all of their partner sites instantly sign-you-in, which can lead to leaked info. For now, that feature is disabled by default, but don't be afraid to check it occasionally to make sure that hasn't changed.
  5. Info accessible through your friend's apps. This is big, so pay attention! Not only are your apps taking your info, but so are your friends' apps. To stop this you'll need to go to the "Applications, Games, and Websites" section, scroll down to the "Info accessible through your friends", and click edit settings. Then uncheck all of the apps and leave it that way. This is a very sneaky way for apps to steal your info, because you didn't authorize it....In fact, I'm about to go fix mine.

Career/Life: Savvy Life Lessons Straight From the SATC Gals

In anticipation for Sex and the City 2, I began to reminisce about the girls before the movie. Yes, it's touted for the relationship expertise and the fashion, but there's also life lessons that can be learned from the girls and their successes, and, of course, their dilemmas.

Carrie
Her story: Carrie Bradshaw makes a living doing what she loves, and we see her develop from a columnist to a published book author. She's commited to her work and does exactly what is needed from her.
The lesson: Carrie is a reminder to stay true to ourselves, in our life and in our work. The one major thing we can learn from her: save, save, save! (I mean, come on, this is a woman who's spent $40,000 bucks on shoes. Imagine what could have been bought instead.)

Miranda
Her story: Miranda is a graduate of Harvard Law and a devoted attorney with a rigorous schedule. She makes partner at her law firm, and is out to prove herself to anyone who questions her goals or her independence.
The lesson: Miranda has a work ethic we can all learn from: for example, when she has a baby she realizes she needs to pull it in some, but she doesn't just throw in the towel. She reminds us that, yes, you can have it all, it just may not look the way you thought it would.

Samantha
Her story: Sam is comfortable in her own skin -- 45, no children, single, and unafraid to go after what (and who) she wants. She runs her own PR firm and goes after the clients herself. She isn't afraid of any one or any challenge.
The lesson: Sam is proof that if you want something, you should go get it. The whole, woman-in-a-man's-world just doesn't cut it anymore.

Charlotte
Her story: When we first met her, Charlotte was a Park Avenue princess, but she proves she's not just a pretty face. The biggest proof of that is when she tells Trey after he and Bunny give her a pre-nup to sign that she's "worth a million."
The lesson: Charlotte proves that you should always stand up for yourself, and know when you can't compromise.

Food: Paillard, Definition

Pronounced "pie-yar", a paillard refers to a boneless cut of meat that's been pounded flat, then cooked rapidly. Traditionally, paillard was used to refer to a piece of veal or chicken that had been flattened, then grilled or sautéed. Today, the term is used more loosely and can refer to chicken, veal, beef, or pork that's been pounded and then cooked in any manner, from baked to fried.

Children: Humpty Who?

I'm sure every mom-to-be dreams of holding their precious bundle and rocking them to sleep while singing lullabies. But what happens when you forget the words? That's not a problem thanks to Humpty Who? ($9). The collection of 80 songs, rhymes, and finger games is a crash course for clueless moms and dads who don't remember what mamas going to buy if the looking glass breaks. The book even comes with an explanation of the songs and a CD. It's definitely a must-have for any new parent!

The fishy smell may not be coming from the skillet in Sheryl Crow's kitchen. Culture: 8 Tips for a No-Frills Wedding

Whether you're eloping at the court house; or getting hitched in Vegas; here's 8 tips for a simple, no-frills wedding.

  1. Do a destination. With the money being saved from not having a big bash; you'll be able to have the wedding somewhere with a little more significance.
  2. Go potluck. If you're having a small reception after a private ceremony, have the guests each bring a separate dish.
  3. Go to happy hour. If you want to ditch the reception all together then you can still have your friends meet you at your favorite bar for happy hour.
  4. Get services instead of gifts. Friends and family would probably jump at the chance to forgo pricey gifts, and give services (hair, make up, photos, etc.) instead.
  5. Take a chance. Without 200+ guests to worry about, you, your betrothed, and your closest friends and family members can take an adventurous outing together.
  6. Skip the ball gown. It'll save time, money, stress, and there'll be no fittings. You can even find a cute one-of-a-kind outfit.
  7. Be courteous. For the friends and family who aren't there for the nuptials, send hand-written notes expressing your love for them so they don't feel completely left out.
  8. Be spontaneous. By not planning a wedding, and spontaneously getting married you can still have an awesome, memorable day without any stress.

Beauty: How to Prevent Lipstick from Flaking

Guys dream of kissing your smooth lips, not your feathered lips; so here's a few tips to keep your lipstick from flaking, creping, or feathering.

  • Clear lip balm: Not only is ChapStick good at keeping your lips hydrated, but a clear coating of it around the outer edge of your lips will create a sort of forcefield to keep your lipstick from traveling.
  • Color in between the lines: A light layer of foundation, followed by a neutral or colorless lip liner creates a solid base for keeping lipstick in check.
  • But if you prefer to go liner free...: First apply powder, then lipstick, then blot. Then repeat (but leave out the blotting on the second time).
  • Exfoliate: Exfoliating helps to eliminate feathery, dead, peeling skin from the lips.
  • Prime time: Lip primers have silicone in them, which help to create a smooth, even surface.
  • Check your products: If you still have lots of caking going on, check your products. They may be to old, or of bad quality. Toss them when necessary.
  • Get glossy: When all else fails, go for a richly hued gloss or highly emollient lipstick. Both glide on easily, and tend to resist caking.

Food: Sparkling Strawberry Cocktail

I believe there's no such thing as two many strawberries, unfortunately, when things like fruit go rotten quickly, it's nice to not have a surplus of them. Fortunately, there's now a way for you to turn that surplus into a yummy spiked punch....Of course, if you're making it for something like a baby shower you may not want to spike it. Either way, here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 750-ml bottle of Prosecco or other sparkling wine (optional)
  • 2 cups of strawberries, hulled
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1/4 cup of orange juice
  • 1 small orange cut into rounds for garnish
  • mint sprigs, for garnish
Directions:

  1. In a blender, puree strawberries and water until smooth.
  2. In a pitcher or punch bowl combine strawberry puree with orange juice and sparkling wine.
  3. Garnish with orange slices and mint.

Beauty: 10 of Films Most Beautiful Brides

I know the "Beauty" entries of my blog are normally about skin care, cosmetics, nail polish, etc., but I was watching I Love You, Man the other night and thought, Rashida Jones is gorgeous, and, thus, was inspired to put together the following list:

  1. Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses She may have always been the bridesmaid before, but in the end she got gorgeous James Marsden.
  2. Vasundhara in Monsoon Wedding If you've seen this movie than you know what a bad person her character was, but her Punjabi make up and jewelry was amazing and she looked gorgeous.
  3. Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars They went from best friends, to trying to destroy each other's weddings, back to being best friends, and they both looked great as they done it.
  4. Katherine Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story I have one thing to say: Those classic Hepburn curls are to die for.
  5. Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama Even though she didn't marry Patrick Dempsey's character in the end, she still looked beautiful, sophisticated, and incredibly stylish.
  6. Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner Jennifer's wedding look in this movie was simplicity at it's finest, and she looked beautiful.
  7. Amanda Seyfried in Mama Mia! At her almost-wedding in Greece, Amanda looked like a Greek Goddess and showed that just a few golden accents can create a warm, beautiful glow.
  8. Rashida Jones in I Love You, Man Rashida looked absolutely beautiful and modern with her informal bride look.
  9. Claudette Cobert in It Happened One Night She may not have been the epitome of "blushing bride", but her look was still the height of 1930s chic.
  10. Elizabeth Taylor in Father of the Bride The dress might be a bit dated, but her beauty look was timeless.

Pets: 3 Reasons to Put Doggles On Your Pooch

Of course, I think Doggles are absolutely adorable, but there are three reasons to put them on your furry friend, other than just for looks.

  1. Riding in a convertible or with the window down (or even walking down the street on a blustery day) can cause dirt, dust, and other foreign particles to get in your dog's eye, and it will cause pain and irritation (or worse) if your puppy scratches at it.
  2. When pups are playing, it can be hard for them to slam on the brakes before the go sliding into branches, leaves, and other objects that are harmful to sensitive eyes. Bug-eyed dogs are even more susceptible to this.
  3. Just like people, a dog's eyes need protection from the sun's UV rays, and Doggles come with a special UV coating that helps block out extra light from the sun, and other bright lights as well.
